I was very impressed by Facebook’s goal attainment of 2 billion users this week. What started out as a simple way of connecting college students is now a global media platform. I placed my first advertisers on the platform in the beginning, and have probably placed 50 million in direct advertising dollars here. US viewership appears to be waning. Postings as memories has become a daily experience for me and the initial audience , collegiate in their 30s, have gone silent. Growth is now in the Third World. The experiment of social media is continuing to evolve, but I know no better channel in reaching Boomers and Gen X. As traditional ad agencies flame out, Facebook will continue to shine through smokey skies.
